A Glimpse Across The Threshold

Welcome to the Threshold! As we stand here (or rather, sitting at your computer reading), I want to give you a glimpse of what I know about a language that most of you consider being very graceful, elegant, and even captivating. American Sign Language is all that but, as I hope you will learn, this beautiful language does not advance in it’s popularity without controversy.

American Sign Language (ASL) is a core value to its primary users, the Deaf community. Their culture is a minority that is established on relationships with whom they have a common ground. This means that their culture is not exclusive to any one place or area. I will address this more later.

My purpose in hosting this blog is to give you (to the best of my ability), authentic insight on ASL and the Deaf culture, to provide you with resources, and to support different organizations concerning the Deaf culture and ASL. My hope is that as you learn, I will learn right along with you.

I do not claim to know everything there is on the subjects written here but many of you have claimed to have a small interest in learning more about American Sign Language or the Deaf culture. With the demands of day-to-day life, small interests and little hobbies are pushed aside for bigger priorities. My desire is to give you a place to satisfy your interest in a small way - to give you “A Glimpse Across The Threshold.”
